What if I don't know the other insurance carrier?
If you have been in a car wreck and don’t know where to begin your claim, you still have options. For some collisions, an Exchange of Information form is filled out, which can contain the other driver’s name, contact, or insurance. If the police arrived on scene, there is most likely a police report, but not always. Even without either of these, you may have received some information that can help your claim.
In any case, start with the information that you do have. You attorney or auto insurer can help you investigate your options, possible coverage, and to navigate obstacles along the way.
WHAT IF I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIT-AND-RUN?
Even if it’s impossible to identify who caused the accident and is responsible, you still may qualify for coverage via UI/UIM coverage. While that’s an entire topic on its own, Uninsured Motorist coverage is a state government coverage that you may qualify for. Speak with your attorney to learn more.
