When will I get paid?
If you have recently reached a settlement or verdict, it’s very common to wonder when the actual check will arrive. Truthfully, it can be a frustrating and slow process even under normal circumstances. The reality is that it all depends, but most cases follow the same general process.
You may think that reaching a dollar amount is the end of settlement, but it’s really only the beginning. Once a compromise is found in that department, there are still many things to discuss, and unfortunately, it involves tons of paperwork. Here is a general timeline:
The Settlement Conference is successful and Settlement is reached
Now, both parties work to draft, adjust, and sign the Settlement Release
The insurance company processes and mails the check to your attorney
Funds are deposited into a trust account until Clearance is received
Identify and pay off any final medical bills or liens
Approve and sign the final itemized Settlement Statement
Receive your final payout check from your attorney
Again, this whole process can take many weeks, depending on how many rounds of adjustments are made to the agreements and the Release. Often times, insurance companies put unfair and strict requirements in the Release, and these must be removed before we can proceed.
