How do I keep my child safe at school?
AS A PARENT, HOW CAN I PROMOTE MY CHILD’S SAFETY WHEN I’M NOT AROUND?
Start with clear communication between your family and the school. Keep emergency contacts current, share relevant medical instructions, and confirm how staff will provide any required health, disability, or supervision supports. Ask about procedures for injuries, emergencies, transportation, and pickup, and make sure your child knows which trusted adults to approach for help.
Encourage your child to tell you about injuries, bullying, threats, or situations that make them uncomfortable. Report concerns promptly in writing, keep copies, and ask what protective steps the school will take and when you should expect an update. If an injury occurs, prioritize medical care, request an incident report, and save relevant messages, photographs, and records.
