Injury from Natural Disasters
IF YOU HAVE BEEN HURT DUE TO A HURRICANE, EARTHQUAKE, OR OTHER DISASTER, YOU MAY BE COVERED.
After a natural disaster, your safety and medical needs come first. Follow official evacuation and emergency instructions, avoid unsafe areas, and seek appropriate care for injuries. When conditions are safe, photograph relevant damage and hazards, record what happened, and save medical records, receipts, and insurance communications.
A storm does not automatically make someone else responsible, but negligence can still matter. For example, damage from a healthy tree falling during a storm is different from damage involving an obviously dangerous tree that an owner failed to address. A lawyer can evaluate whether someone’s conduct contributed to an injury, while your insurer can explain which losses your policy covers. Property damage coverage and a personal injury claim are separate issues, and standard homeowners insurance generally does not cover flood damage.
