Practicing Safety
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF SAFETY PLANS IS ACTUALLY IMPLEMENTING THEM.
Safety is most useful when it becomes a habit you follow every day. You can have the most robust safety plan in the universe, full of contingency plans, but you need to be able to follow it on the day of the incident, whenever that comes.
PRACTICE YOUR SAFETY PLANS UNTIL THEY ARE REMEMBERED.
Here are some general safety tips:
Put away distractions when crossing streets or using stairs
Always use handrails, crosswalks, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Pay attention to changing weather conditions when outdoors.
Perform fire and other inspections regularly.
Address hazards you can safely correct and report problems that require someone else’s attention.
Keep emergency contacts available and agree on a simple communication plan with your group.
These habits can reduce risks, but if an injury occurs, seek appropriate care and document what happened when it is safe to do so.
