What does Maximum Medical Improvement mean?
Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI).”
During recovery, your doctor may reach a point where major further improvement is no longer expected. For some patients, this means they are fully healed, and no longer show symptoms of the injury. For others, the healing process is done, but there will always be some permanent symptoms, such as pain, scarring, or discomfort, or other limitations.
In either case, the provider will certify that you have reached the point where treatment won’t improve your conditions any more. This is called MMI, or Maximum Medical Improvement.
This medical finding can affect the next stage of your Workers’ Compensation claim and your benefits. Contact your Attorney for more info.
To restate, MMI means your condition has stabilized and is unlikely to improve substantially with further treatment. You may still have pain or lasting limits. MMI does not mean you are completely healed, and it can affect temporary wage benefits and the next steps in your claim.
