What is Small Claims Court?
Small Claims Court is a type of court in many states. Maryland provides a shorter, more simple process for certain smaller money disputes. If your case is under a $5,000 limit and meets certain filing criteria, you may be able to resolve your case more quickly and at a lower cost.
SMALL CLAIMS COURT USES SIMPLIFIED PROCEDURES, BUT YOUR CLAIM STILL NEEDS STRONG EVIDENCE.
To file a complaint in Maryland’s Small Claims Court, you need the official District Court Complaint form, and the names of the parties, reason for claim, amount requested, and more info. Filing fees may apply.
Organize any evidence or other relevant documents you have, including contracts, receipts, invoices, photos, messages, or witness information. Creating a timeline for the court can help demonstrate what happened in your case and why a certain amount is owed. Make sure to bring plenty of copies.
