What if I am injured at a Business?
After an injury at a business, your immediate needs are medical care, an accurate report, and preservation of the facts.
IF YOU HAVE BEEN INJURED, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.
Don’t delay medical care to seek evidence. After you are safe and have been treated, do your best to collect evidence of the incident and evidence of your injury. It may be smart to contact a Lawyer to review your options.
IDENTIFY THE CONDITIONS THAT CAUSED THE INJURY.
If you tripped, slipped, or otherwise fell at a business, try to take photographs of the hazard and surrounding area. If there is a flooding or sewage problem, uneven flooring, or sharp fixtures, make sure to document those as well. Do your best to capture lighting and any warning signs if present.
MAKE SURE TO REPORT THE INCIDENT TO A MANAGER OR REPRESENTATIVE.
Report to a manager or another responsible party. Note who received the report and request incident-report information. If you are unable to reach anyone on the premises, do your best to find contact info online.
AN INJURY ALONE IS USUALLY NOT ENOUGH FOR A RECOVERY - THEY MUST BE FOUND RESPONSIBLE.
All of the evidence and documentation matters, and our job now is determining if the accident is the business’s fault. We also want to know if it could have been prevented, and to support these things, we use any evidence concerning the hazard, the business’s knowledge of it, and any reasonable precautions.
